Description

Application:

• OTR is used to measure the oxygen permeability of polymer/composite films and coatings that are used in packaging, biological sciences, filtration membranes, construction industry and medical packaging films.

Principle:

Oxygen Transmission Rate is used to measure the permeation of oxygen molecules through a film or membrane. A vacuum is initially created on both the sides of the film sample that is placed between two chambers. Then oxygen gas is passed through the top chamber and the oxygen molecules permeate through the film into the bottom chamber. The variation in vacuum levels indicate the quantity of oxygen that passes through the film at a constant temperature. This is used to calculate the oxygen transmission rate through the film.
